A consumer drives a 2019 F150 with half-worn tires that cost $350 a piece new. The driver hits a pothole that leads to a sidewall blow-out. In the case of a prorated warranty, that driver will need to pay $175 plus any installation and tire-disposal charges. In the case of a certificate, the driver already paid around $70 per tire and will have to buy a new certificate to protect the replacement tire.
