Bend, OR — As part of its Tires for Purpose program, Les Schwab is advancing community services by donating new sets of tires to five nonprofits in Central Oregon. This week, Les Schwab conducted its fourth of five tire installations, putting new winter tires on a Boys & Girls Club of Bend (BGCB) Ford Transit van in a live demonstration for young club members as part of BGCB’s #WorkforceWednesday program.

Nine young people and four counselors attended the demo at 12:30 pm on Oct. 30 at the Les Schwab store at 210 NE 3rd St. in Bend. The kids were fully engaged during the tire installation demo, eagerly guessing how much a tire weighs and asking about the biggest tires in the inventory. They had fun rolling tires alongside the store manager and were surprised by just how heavy they are. Les Schwab Tires’ delicious free popcorn was a big hit with everyone.

“Les Schwab is all about strengthening and investing in the communities we are in,” said Store Manager Steve Curtiss.

“This donation from Les Schwab Tires benefits our kids in several ways,” said BGCB CEO Bess Goggins. “The exposure to the benefits of an automotive career path is an excellent addition to our #WorkforceWednesday program, and the new tires will be a great help through the winter. Our vans are used daily, and safety is absolutely our priority.”

The new tires were installed on one of BGCB’s 16 Ford Transit vans, which are used to transport youth between the club’s two Bend-area locations and to take young people on year-round field trips.

The Les Schwab Tires for Purpose program was developed to partner with organizations that are helping people in our communities. New, donated tires help keep everyone on the road to do more good. Other partners in the program are Bethlehem Inn, Furnish Hope, NeighborImpact and Oregon Adaptive Sports. “Les Schwab is all about strengthening and investing in the communities we are in,” said Store Manager Steve Curtiss. “We believe in the work the Boys & Girls Club is doing and are eager to support their ongoing efforts.”
